CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), announced $1,481,323 through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) State Water Pollution Control Monitoring Initiative for West Virginia. This funding will help protect, maintain, and improve the quality of water in our state’s rivers, lakes, streams, groundwater, and other bodies of water. Additionally, this program helps prevent the degradation of operational bodies of water, reduces the number of impaired bodies of water, and monitors water quality standard development in West Virginia.

“It is great to see this funding coming to West Virginia to strengthen our water resources. Not only will this program help monitor the quality of our drinking water, but it will also help protect the natural beauty and splendor for which our state is known. Through my work as Chairman of the Environment and Public Works’ (EPW) Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure, access to clean water has always been a priority of mine. I will continue to advocate for the needs of our state, and bring critical support to West Virginia,” said Senator Capito.

“In West Virginia, our streams, lakes, and rivers are the pride of our outdoor recreation areas, and it is our duty as West Virginians to make sure they stay clean. This funding will help ensure that our water sources across the state are protected and maintained so West Virginians and our visitors can enjoy them for generations to come,” said Senator Manchin
