CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $31,017,500 through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for professional nursing homes in West Virginia.
“Nursing homes across West Virginia and our country have taken on massive challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it all the more important that we provide the support they need,” said Senator Capito. “Many of the staff and residents of our nursing homes, as well as the families of those residents, have made unbelievable sacrifices to keep one another and our communities safe from this terrible disease. As we continue to meet the challenges created by COVID-19, we must do all we can to protect the at-risk population in our state. This funding in support of that effort is encouraging, and I am thankful for our state’s partnership with HHS during this difficult and uncertain time.”
“Our nursing homes have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic and we must do everything possible to help them care for our elderly friends and family,” said Senator Manchin. “This funding will help our nursing homes provide the quality care our seniors deserve while ensuring our nurses, caregivers, and residents are as safe as possible during this pandemic. I am pleased HHS is providing more resources to improve the quality of care for West Virginia’s most vulnerable citizens and I will continue to fight for funding that provides access to quality healthcare for our seniors.”
