WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $200,326 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. This funding will support a project entitled "REU Site: Collaborative Research: Architecture of Earthquakes in the Deep Crust: International Arctic Expedition Science for Students" and will fund field research for eight undergraduate students off the western coast of Greenland.

“This is exciting news for Concord and broadens their research capability on an international scale. It is a testament to the important work our students can do there,” said Senator Capito. “NSF projects like this create fantastic opportunities for our students in West Virginia. I look forward to learning about the outcomes this research will produce from our students at Concord.”

“I am always proud to see West Virginia colleges and universities competing on an international scale. This project will take students from Concord to Greenland for interesting research on earthquakes and will expand these young student’s horizons for their futures. NSF funding plays a large role in expanding access to education for students across America and West Virginia, and I will continue to advocate for funding that supports these important programs,” said Senator Manchin.
