WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $9,964,754 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for multiple initiatives across the state of West Virginia.
“Investing in the development of our local economies in cities, towns, and counties across our state is vital to West Virginia’s future success. These investments announced today, totaling nearly $10 million, will help address the unique needs of our rural communities in West Virginia, and provide important resources for our local governments and small businesses,” Senator Capito said.
“Supporting rural communities across West Virginia creates jobs and boosts the entire Mountain State economy. I’m pleased USDA is investing in community needs, business expansion, job creation, workforce training and more throughout the state. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for our rural communities across West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said.
Individual awards listed below:
USDA Rural Development Grants/Loans:
- $6,400,000 (Loan) – Appalachian Hotel Management (Monongalia County): To purchase a La Quinta Inn hotel in Westover. The loan funds will create 6 jobs and save 15 jobs.
- $750,000 (Loan) – Woodlands Community Lender (Randolph County): To make loans to small businesses in three counties: Barbour, Randolph, and Tucker Counties. Approximately 165 jobs will be created and 150 jobs will be saved by this investment
- $249,660 (Grant) – Mountain Steer Meat Company (Greenbrier County): To hire four personnel.
- $199,114 (Grant) – Ohio State University: To develop and support cooperative businesses throughout 32 Ohio counties and 55 counties in West Virginia by providing feasibility, business analysis and technical assistance to build business capacity.
- $124,635 (Grant) – Family Roots Farm (Brooke County): To expand the customer base and brand packaging for maple syrup and sweet sorghum as well as improve operational efficiency and increase revenue.
- $99,981 (Grant) – Big Red Matt, LLC (Ohio County): To help Big Red Matt LLC process and market products.
- $62,164 (Grant) – Woodlands Community Lender (Randolph County): To capitalize a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund to make microloans and provide technical assistance to rural micro-entrepreneurs and micro-enterprises in Randolph, Barbour and Tucker counties.
- $50,000 (Grant) – Yuraction Faction (Monongalia County): To process and market products.
USDA Community Facilities Grants/Loans:
- $1,600,000 (Loan) – Hospital Development Co. (Roane County): This investment will be used to help Hospital Development Company renovate their current structure to modernize their emergency department, create a new urgent care and walk-in clinic, and relocate the MRI machine and administrative offices.
- $112,500 (Grant) – Ceredo Volunteer Fire Department (Wayne County): This investment will be used to purchase an ambulance.
- $50,000 (Grant) – The town of Alderson (Monroe County): This investment will be used to purchase one new backhoe/loader.
- $43,000 (Grant) – The City of Bluefield (Mercer County): This investment will be used by the city of Bluefield to purchase a new truck.
- $42,600 (Grant) – Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department: This investment will be used by the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company to purchase a truck.
- $40,200 (Grant) – Hardy County Commission: This investment will be used by the Hardy County Sheriff's Department to purchase two new police vehicles with all necessary police equipment.
- $23,000 (Grant) – Wyoming County Commission: This investment will be used by the Wyoming County Commission to purchase 12 laptops for sheriff's vehicles.
- $22,700 (Grant) – Mingo County Commission: This investment will be used by the Mingo County Sheriff's Department to purchase four law enforcement vehicles.
- $21,900 (Grant) – City of Bluefield (Mercer County): This investment will be used by the city of Bluefield to purchase a vacuum leaf collector for the Public Works Department.
- $15,700 (Grant) – Hardy County Commission: This investment will be used by the Hardy County Commission to purchase 50 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) oxygen tanks to be utilized by fire departments throughout Hardy County.
- $14,700 (Grant) – Normantown Historical Community Center (Gilmer County): This investment will be used to purchase a four wheel drive tractor with attachments for mowing and general upkeep of the facility's three acres of property.
- $13,000 (Grant) – McDowell County Commission: This investment will be used by the McDowell County Commission to purchase 12 laptops for sheriff's vehicles.
- $10,800 (Grant) – Barbour County: This investment will be used by the Barbour County Sheriff's Department to replace one of their aging vehicles.
- $6,200 (Grant) – The City of Romney (Hampshire County): This investment will be used by the city of Romney to purchase three radar units for their police vehicles.
- $4,800 (Grant) The City of Romney (Hampshire County): This investment will be used by the City of Romney to purchase a Stout zero turn riding mower to mow multiple locations including town hall, two parks, the community pool, the fire department, and walking trails.
- $3,400 (Grant) – The City of Romney (Hampshire County): This investment will be used by the city of Romney to retrofit existing vehicles with rear cargo and window screens for prisoner containment.
- $3,000 (Grant) – The City of Romney (Hampshire County): This investment will be used by the city of Romney to purchase a new airless paint striping machine for use in line work on city streets and parking lots, plus the painting of city curbs.
- $1,700 (Grant) – The City of Romney (Hampshire County): This investment will be used by the City of Romney to purchase K9 training equipment to train their existing, untrained K9 in drug detection, criminal and missing person tracking, and criminal apprehension.
