WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced a total of $2,992,945 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for Head Start programs in Kanawha County. This funding will allow the Kanawha County Board of Education to fund 60 school and community based Head Start classrooms throughout the county and serve upwards of 1,500 students.
“Young West Virginians need a strong foundation to lead successful lives,” said Senator Capito. “This funding will help us accomplish this goal in Kanawha County by providing our next generation of students with better health and educational services that enrich their lives.”
“In West Virginia, our commitments reflect our values, and we value our children above all else,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will ensure the Kanawha County Board of Education can continue providing critical health, nutrition, education and social services to the children and families they serve. Head Start programs are an investment in the next generation of West Virginians and our children deserve these educational opportunities.”
