WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $18 million for two West Virginia airports through the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Funding will support runway improvements and rehabilitation.
“My roles on the Appropriations, Commerce, and Environment and Public Works Committees give me unique insight into rural infrastructure and a seat at the table as we work to repair, rebuild, and improve it,” Senator Capito said. “Ultimately, investing in our airports’ runways means improved safety, which in turn leads to better commerce and day-to-day travels for passengers and crew alike. I’m glad to see these grants come to Huntington and Parkersburg.”
“As a pilot, I know the importance of keeping our airport runways in top-notch condition. Small, rural airports particularly need our help, which is why I worked with my colleagues to include an additional $1 billion in FY18 within the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program for airports like Huntington and Parkersburg,” Senator Manchin said. “I was pleased to see that Charleston received funding in the first round, and I am glad that DOT has decided to release the second round of funds so we can invest in infrastructure in the Tri-State and Mid-Ohio Valley airports. I will continue to use my position on the Senate Appropriations Committee to make sure every airport in our state has the funds it needs to continue to grow.”
