WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced that they will host a broadband workshop in Charleston, West Virginia on September 19.
The workshop will include planning and training sessions to help West Virginia communities build their broadband capacity, learn about federal funding opportunities, and develop successful programs for funding broadband projects.
“For years I’ve been leading the campaign to improve broadband in West Virginia. NTIA is a key federal partner in this effort, and I am pleased that West Virginia will be among the stops it makes on its BroadbandUSA tour. West Virginians should take advantage of this opportunity and join this workshop on September 19,” said Senator Capito.
“I am extremely pleased NTIA has answered the call to come to West Virginia and help our communities expand broadband deployment,” Senator Manchin said. “Closing the digital divide in rural America and expanding broadband access has been a priority for me. I successfully led the effort to advance over $4.5 billion in federal funding for mobile broadband deployment in rural America and this workshop will be an important step towards connecting West Virginia communities with this funding and additional funding options and models for broadband infrastructure projects that will work for West Virginia. I encourage every stakeholder, community, and individual to reach out to me and attend this workshop so we can work towards closing these broadband gaps together.”
“NTIA’s BroadbandUSA program is committed to helping communities, companies and nonprofits that want to expand access to and meaningful use of broadband in America,” said Douglas Kinkoph, Associate Administrator of NTIA’s Office of Telecommunications and Information Applications. “The workshop in Charleston, West Virginia, like other events we hold around the country, will allow us to hear directly from local stakeholders on the front lines of broadband expansion, and share our technical expertise to help those important efforts move forward.”
