WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $448,352 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support STEM education focused projects at Fairmont State University and Concord University.
“It’s great to see the National Science Foundation invest into programs that advance STEM education in West Virginia. STEM careers are in-demand right now, and it’s essential that we give our youth the tools they need to pursue them. Last year, I launched the Women in STEM Caucus in the U.S. Senate to promote policies and other efforts that will increase opportunities for young students to engage in these types of fields. Inspiring our youth to reach their full potential is essential to our state’s future, and I look forward to role this support will play in that effort,” Senator Capito said.
“The National Science Foundation continues to be a great partner for West Virginia colleges and universities, and I’m pleased with these continued investments in our state. The research projects at Concord University and Fairmont State College will support innovation in Appalachia and expand teacher education programs in STEM. I look forward to seeing the benefits of these critical initiatives, and I will continue to advocate for research and educational opportunities here in the Mountain State,” Senator Manchin said.
