WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $975,000 in funding through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the Purgitsville Water Extension Project. This extension project will help provide reliable, safe drinking water to residents in Purgitsville and southwestern Hampshire County, West Virginia.
“West Virginians deserve access to safe drinking water and reliable infrastructure both above and below ground. As ranking member of the EPW Committee, improving our state’s infrastructure is a top priority, which is why I’ve made it a point to identify projects that are in need of federal support. My office has been in close contact with Purgitsville residents concerned about the safety of their drinking water, and I’m thrilled to see our work with USACE lead to this investment to help address those concerns. I will continue to use my role on both the EPW and Appropriations Committees to bring critical support to our state’s roads, bridges, and water infrastructure,” Ranking Member Capito said.
“When West Virginians have fresh air to breathe and clean water to drink, our state is healthier and our people thrive. Last year, I advocated to increase authorized funding for the Section 571 Central West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure Program in the Water Resources Development Act. I am pleased the Purgitsville Water Extension Project is receiving federal funding to provide West Virginians in Hampshire County with water service and fire protection,” Senator Manchin said. “I will continue to work closely with the Army Corps of Engineers to ensure projects across West Virginia receive the funding they need to upgrade water infrastructure in the Mountain State.”
