WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is making investments to improve water and waste infrastructure in Braxton, Fayette, Marion and Nicholas counties. Through the USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, this funding will provide assistance and financing to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems for communities with 10,000 or fewer residents.

“Maintaining and improving access to our water and wastewater infrastructure is critical for communities throughout the state, including rural towns like Sutton, Monongah, Nettie and Pax,” said Senator Capito, a member of the Appropriations Committee. “This USDA funding is welcome news for these areas as they work to improve water infrastructure systems and strengthen local economies and the reason why I advocated for an increase in this program in this year’s Agriculture Appropriations bill.”

“Investing in water infrastructure projects in rural communities not only improves the quality of life for our local residents, but preserves countless good-paying jobs, boosts economic development and improves the prosperity of our families, businesses and communities,” Senator Manchin said. “I am pleased these projects will receive the funding needed to improve the water systems in Braxton, Fayette, Marion and Nicholas counties and will expand water services to underserved communities that truly need it.”
