WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced funding for four projects through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Section 340 environmental infrastructure program, totaling $5,000,000. This funding is made possible through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and will help provide reliable water and sewer service.
“These investments are another great example of West Virginia reaping the benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Southern West Virginia in particular struggles with inadequate water and wastewater infrastructure, which is why the Section 340 program was created to provide dedicated assistance to this region of our state. The funding announced will help ensure more than 6,000 West Virginians receive access to reliable, affordable, safe, and clean water and wastewater,” Ranking Member Capito said. “In my position as the top Republican on the EPW Committee—which oversees USACE—I continue to work closely with the Corps, state, and local partners to make these critical infrastructure projects a reality.”
“Every West Virginian deserves clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe. In order to ensure all West Virginians have access to clean water, we must continue to update and improve our water infrastructure across the state. I successfully fought to include historic investments for water infrastructure and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and I am pleased with this investment in Mingo, Wayne, Webster and Raleigh counties to improve water quality and sewer services,” Senator Manchin said.
Individual awardees:
Webster County Economic Development Authority – $1,075,000 for a waterline extension to approximately 50 unserved residents of the Grassy Creek Road area, just outside the municipal limits of the Town of Webster Springs. The project will provide safe clean potable water for the residents and improve commercial growth potential.
