CHARLESTON. W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $8,904.38 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security‘s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the Independent Fire Co. No. 1 in Ranson, West Virginia. This funding was made available through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
“Every day, our firefighters put the lives of their fellow West Virginian’s first and provide essential services to our communities,” said Chairman Capito. “As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I have worked to make sure the AFG program receives proper funding levels. I’ve also made sure that fire departments in West Virginia know of the opportunities the program creates. I’m thrilled to see Independent Fire Co. No. 1 in Ranson take advantage of this opportunity, and I encourage departments across the state to make the most of this program as well.”
“The brave men and women of the Ranson Independent Fire Co. No 1 risk their lives to keep their community safe from harm and we must ensure they have the necessary equipment and resources to be as protected as possible on the job,” said Senator Manchin. “I am pleased FEMA is supporting the Ranson firefighters and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding that helps keep West Virginians safe.”
