WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) led 37 Senators in introducing a bipartisan resolution to designate the week of February 22nd, 2021 as Public Schools Week, which passed the Senate unanimously. The Public Schools Week resolution celebrates the critical role public schools play in their communities and encourages state, local and federal lawmakers to prioritize efforts to strengthen public education, bolster services that provide critical support for students, including counseling, extracurricular activities, and mental health resources and urges Congress support efforts to advance equal opportunities for all students.

“I’m proud to be the mother of three children who are products of our local public schools,” Senator Capito said. “Our public schools in West Virginia provide students with a safe and strong educational environment that fosters the growth of each child. Today’s Public Schools Week resolution rightfully recognizes the hard work and dedication of teachers, administrators, and staff across our state.”

“Public education is essential to providing every child with a high-quality education, regardless of where they live in our great nation. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, public school teachers, administrators, students and parents have been stretched thin and have worked especially hard to ensure students continue to learn during these difficult times. I’m proud to celebrate Public Schools Week and the invaluable role they play in helping West Virginia students learn and grow,” Senator Manchin said.
