WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Subcommittee, announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for the Town of Poca, W.Va.

This award, which was secured through a CDS request made solely by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), will be used to purchase emergency equipment for law enforcement officers to respond to an emergency event.

“I worked closely with leaders in Poca to secure this funding to equip the city’s law enforcement officers with the best possible tools to respond to an emergency event,” Senator Capito said. “This particular CDS award will ensure that law enforcement officers have tools to respond to an unfolding tragedy and save countless lives. As a member of the CJS Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to work with our local partners to make sure our communities have the resources they need to remain safe and secure.”

“The Town of Poca would like to thank Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s Office in helping the town in receiving the Department of Justice Grant. The Town will be using funds to help upgrade its equipment and acquire training to prepare the town’s Police Department for an active shooter / terror activity at our schools and community and keep it safe. Without Senator Capito’s office involvement we would not have received this award,” Poca Chief of Police and Mayor William Jones jointly said.

Individual award details listed below:
