WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the following statement on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:
“Fourteen years ago, our country was forever changed by the deadly attacks on September 11, 2001. The terrorists who sought to tear us apart instead united us more than ever. Selfless first responders and citizens risked their lives to rescue others, and brave military personnel put themselves in harm’s way to defend our nation. Today, we honor those sacrifices and the memories of the nearly 3,000 men and women who were taken from their loved ones.
“In the aftermath of 9/11, West Virginians came together to organize supply drives and pray for the victims and their families. Today, I ask that West Virginians join me to pray for the families who faced unfathomable loss and give thanks to those who keep our country safe.”
