WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the following statement on the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks:

“Today, we remember the innocent people, first responders, and military personnel that were lost on this day 17 years ago. Despite the sadness and devastation caused by the attacks, it was an event that united Americans across the country more than ever. West Virginians know that kind of unity well, which is why I’m so proud to call our state and this country home. I encourage all West Virginians to take a moment today to pray for the victims, their families, and all those who faced unfathomable loss in the wake of the September 11th attacks, but at the same time, remember that even in our darkest hour, our American spirit—our West Virginia spirit—will always comfort us, sustain us, and inspire us to unite as one.”
