WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement regarding funding for the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in the administration’s FY2018 budget proposal:

“The Office of National Drug Control Policy plays an important role in combatting the opioid epidemic affecting families and communities across the country. That’s why I made it very clear that eliminating ONDCP would be unacceptable. Having led the charge to convince the administration it should rethink its proposal, I’m happy to see OMB reversed course and included funding for the office in its budget. We still have a long way to go when it comes to the drug epidemic, and it is essential that we remain fully committed to fighting it. We need to be doing more—not less.”

Earlier this month, Senator Capito wrote to Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, calling on the administration to propose a realistic budget that demonstrates the administration’s commitment to combatting drug addiction. The letter is available here
