WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) released the following statement after Pope Francis’ historic address to a Joint Meeting of Congress.
“Pope Francis’ address was uplifting and hopeful, reminding us that we must work together to confront the many challenges facing our nation and the world. Quoting the Golden Rule, he reminded us to ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’
“I was honored to take part in the first ever papal address before Congress and visit with the many West Virginians who were in Washington for the event. The Pope’s message of compassion, forgiveness and acceptance was one we should all heed.”
