WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, released the below statement regarding legislation passed by the Senate this evening containing bill text for six Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) appropriations divisions.
“Funding the government is one of Congress’ primary responsibilities, and I am glad we voted to prevent a partial government shutdown. The scope of this package is broad, from ensuring care for our veterans to enhancing and expanding our roads and airports in West Virginia. These bills fund law enforcement at the federal, state and local level, and the Violence Against Women Act. The bills also provide rural development grants to combat housing, broadband, and infrastructure challenges, while our institutions of higher learning benefit from the investments made in academic research, along with research and investment in fossil fuel technology and research. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I was proud to be able to ensure these bills have West Virginia priorities included, and I look forward to completing the remaining bills to conclude the FY24 budget process soon,” Senator Capito said.
Included in the legislation are dozens of Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) projects that Senator Capito authored after having consulted and worked with entities and organizations across West Virginia. Click here to view a full list of projects Senator Capito secured direct spending for.

Six bills remain which should be taken up by the Senate soon to conclude the FY24 budget process.
