WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement after voting to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government today. The continuing resolution passed the Senate on a 78-20 vote and will fund the government through December 11, 2015.
“Today’s vote fulfills one of Congress’ primary responsibilities - funding the government. We must continue our efforts to avoid future shutdowns,” said Senator Capito. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud of the work we have done to pass all 12 appropriations bills out of committee. Nine of these 12 bills had bipartisan support. In the coming weeks, we should have the chance to debate these bills, offer amendments and advocate for our priorities. I hope that my colleagues will drop the filibusters that have kept appropriations bills off the Senate floor for months and instead work in a bipartisan way to fund the government in a responsible manner.”
