CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) released the following statement today on Tax Day:

“West Virginia really does have an incredible story to share when it comes to the difference tax reform has made in our state. Since the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act became law, I’ve heard many examples of how tax reform is creating a brighter future for our state. Now, West Virginians are able to invest in our children, in our workers, and in our small businesses. It’s not only providing much-needed relief for families and businesses, but it’s also helping revitalize our communities—expanding the reach of our local charities and even helping further efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. Now that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act has become law, Tax Day continues to have a new meaning, which means West Virginians can continue to look forward to an even brighter future.”

Last year marked the last Tax Day Americans would file their taxes under the old, outdated, and burdensome tax code. Senator Capito voted for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which Congress passed and President Trump signed into law. Since then, Senator Capito has met with and heard from many West Virginia families and businesses that have been able to keep more of their hard-earned money, provide for their children’s education and families’ needs, and give back to their communities.
