WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the below statement on her vote against Steve Dettelbach to serve as Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF):
“This week, my colleagues and I are working on bipartisan solutions to improve public safety and reduce the gun violence that has impacted far too many families and communities. The nomination of Steve Dettelbach to lead ATF, put forth by Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, does not fit that goal of working toward those solutions, and instead advocates for a partisan agenda. Mr. Dettelbach’s previous positions and actions do not indicate he would be the type of leader at ATF that we need at this time, and that is why I voted against advancing his nomination today and will not support his confirmation.”
