WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued the following statement after her vote today in favor of legislation to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security:
“While I ardently oppose President Obama’s executive action on immigration, I continue to believe that funding the Department of Homeland Security must be our top priority. Earlier today, I voted to keep language in the appropriations bill blocking the president’s executive amnesty. Even after the immigration provisions were removed, fully funding the Department of Homeland Security and avoiding a shutdown that could threaten our national security, inhibit our ability to secure our borders and slow our emergency response was critical.”
Senator Capito also supported House-passed legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security and block the president’s executive action on immigration.
