WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today applauded the Senate’s 93-0 passage of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (MilCon/VA) Appropriations Act, which funds military construction projects and veterans services.
“Supporting our veterans is not only necessary, it’s what our men and women deserve. I am glad that the Senate came together in a bipartisan way to pass legislation that makes critical investments in our military and veterans services. From providing the best medical equipment and training, to treating the unseen scars of mental health, it is our duty to uphold this nation’s sacred vow to those who serve. When I am back home for Veterans Day tomorrow, I look forward to telling West Virginia’s veterans that the Senate responsibly supported them by passing this legislation,” said Senator Capito, a member of the MilCon/VA appropriations subcommittee.
Senator Capito also voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) today, which passed the Senate on a 91-3 vote. NDAA prohibits the transfer of terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to the United States. Last month, Senator Capito traveled to Guantanamo with Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.).
“After recently visiting Guantanamo Bay, I strongly believe that detainees must continue being held there. Dangerous terrorists must be detained in a manner that ensures the safety and security of all Americans, and today senators from both parties overwhelmingly voted to ban the transfer of these detainees to the United States,” Senator Capito added.
