WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va) today issued the following statement after being appointed chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee:

“Infrastructure has always been a critical bipartisan priority because of how important it is to mobility and prosperity, and I’m excited to be a leader in advancing our country’s transportation and infrastructure priorities. Rebuilding and improving infrastructure is about more than building just roads and highways. It’s about building up entire communities, industries, businesses, and local economies. This Congress, I’m hoping transportation and infrastructure projects will build stronger relationships across the aisle, as well. Working together, we can address the challenges created by an aging infrastructure system, make it safer and easier for families and individuals to travel, and create new opportunities to grow and diversify our economy. I’m honored to have been appointed by Chairman Barrasso, and I’m eager to get to work, building and repairing infrastructure in West Virginia and across the country.”

As a member of the EPW Committee, Senator Capito advocates for policies that protect vital West Virginia energy and manufacturing jobs and encourage investment in West Virginia’s highway infrastructure. She is also a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, where she will continue to serve as chair of the Homeland Security Subcommittee; the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee; and the Rules and Administration Committee.
