WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), announced that U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) will continue serving as chairman of the Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee during the 115th Congress. The subcommittee, which Senator Capito also chaired in the 114th Congress, oversees EPA regulations established under the Clean Air Act, including rules to curb carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants.

“I am honored to continue serving as chairman of the Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee,” said Senator Capito. “As chair of this important subcommittee during the last congress, I hosted two field hearings in southern West Virginia to examine the impact of EPA carbon regulations on the nation’s second largest coal producing state, and I conducted legislative oversight of misguided regulations. I look forward to building on this work in the new congress and working with President Trump and his administration to bring common sense to the regulatory process.”

The Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Clean Air Act, Tennessee Valley Authority, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. For more information about the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, visit www.epw.senate.gov.
