WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced she will continue serving as the top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees funding for a range of national security resources and agencies.

“Our nation faces a number of unprecedented challenges, including those at our southern border, evolving cybersecurity threats, natural disasters, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” Ranking Member Capito said. “It’s critical we provide the necessary resources to tackle these issues, and that process starts on the Appropriations Committee, specifically the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee. For the past couple of years it was my honor to serve as chairman of this subcommittee and now as ranking member, I will be able to continue to address the needs of West Virginians and all Americans when making these key funding decisions.

“Throughout my tenure on the Appropriations Committee, working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, West Virginia has seen an increase in funds for broadband deployment, addiction recovery, economic development, scientific research and increased support and opportunity for the federal facilities and workforce throughout our state. I hope to build on these past investments for our state, work with my colleagues and the new administration, and ensure we never lose focus on the responsibility we have to keep our nation secure.”

In the 117th Congress, Senator Capito will continue serving on four U.S. Senate committees—including the Committee on Appropriations; the Committee on Environment and Public Works as Ranking Member; the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
