WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a letter to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald released today, Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R.-W.Va.) urged the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to act swiftly following reports that older, less expensive medications were being used to treat veterans at the Beckley VA Medical Center (VAMC).

Last week, the Office of the Special Counsel sent a letter to President Obama detailing the actions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee at the Beckley VAMC.

“Caring for the men and women who have honorably served our nation should be the utmost priority for all VA facilities.  For that reason, I urge the Department of Veterans Affairs to expeditiously implement the recommendations made for the Beckley facility in the agency report,” said Capito in the letter.

Capito is a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Administration, and Related Agencies, which oversees the VA and its budget.  In the letter, Capito also called on the secretary to address several things not included in the Office of the Special Counsel report.
