MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today made several stops in Kearneysville and Martinsburg where she met with constituents, community leaders, veterans, and those in recovery.

“It was great to be back in the Eastern Panhandle today to hear directly from constituents about the issues that matter to them,” Senator Capito said. “During our first stop at the Mountaineer Recovery Center, I was able to get a closer look at the in-patient recovery services this new facility is providing to West Virginians, and how their efforts are contributing to our greater goal of eliminating this terrible problem. At the Martinsburg VA, it was great to see so many veterans and take the opportunity to honor our brave Vietnam veterans with the ‘Welcome Home’ pin. This pin is a small, special reminder that we appreciate all that our veterans have done to make sure we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.”

“We appreciate Senator Capito visiting our facilities today and learning more about how we’re changing lives in the Eastern Panhandle,” said Kevin Knowles, Mountaineer Recovery Center Development Director. “Our goal is to be able to give the residents a lodge-type atmosphere here at Mountaineer Recovery Center. This is where hope becomes reality!”

Senator Capito began the day at the Mountaineer Recovery Center (MRC) in Kearneysville where she joined MRC Development Director Kevin Knowles and other community leaders to tour the facility, discuss the future plans for the center, and meet with patients undergoing treatment at MRC.

In the afternoon, Senator Capito held a pinning ceremony for Vietnam veterans at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center. During the event, Vietnam veterans were presented with ‘Welcome Home’ pins. Veterans and their family members were also able to inquire about services Senator Capito’s office offers exclusively to veterans. Senator Capito is the only member in the West Virginia delegation offering this pin, and previously held a similar ceremony in Charleston on Veterans Day last year with U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Dr. John Fleming.
