WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the below statement after voting to confirm Robert Wilkie as secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA). Wilkie was confirmed by an 86-9 vote.

Given his background and the respect and support he has among those in the military community, I know Mr. Wilkie shares a strong commitment to taking care of the men and women who have so bravely served our country, and I believe he will be an excellent leader at the VA. I look forward to working with Mr. Wilkie as we continue to reform and improve the VA system and advance other efforts to ensure our veterans receive the support they deserve.”
