WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today applauded the announcement that West Virginia hospitals will receive $196,971,716 in Provider Relief Fund payments. This announcement comes after Senator Capito and Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) sent a bipartisan letter making this request. In total, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will pay out $10 billion to hospitals that serve a disproportionate number of Medicaid patients or provide large amounts of uncompensated care. West Virginia’s portion will be distributed between 13 hospitals which meet specific criteria set out by HHS.
“As many West Virginian’s face incredible risks during the COVID-19 outbreak, this financial support will ensure that our most vulnerable citizens will continue to receive the health services they need. Our health care professionals have stepped up tremendously during this pandemic and have shown great courage as they protect their fellow West Virginian’s in their time of need. This funding will ensure that our safety net hospitals have the resources they need to battle the coronavirus and keep our residents safe. I am very pleased that HHS listened to my request and provided robust support to help keep these hospitals and providers afloat during this tough time,” said Senator Capito.
