Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced $967,139 in federal funding to Christians Helping Arrange New Growth Enterprises (CHANGE) in the Northern Panhandle. The funding has been awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and will be used to provide support for various programs to improve health and community action.
“West Virginians pride ourselves on our unique culture of neighbors helping neighbors and have always embraced a strong sense of community,” Senator Manchin said. “This grant helps makes sure struggling families in the Northern Panhandle have access to important health facilities, housing services and financial assistance that will help them get back on their feet after difficult times. I am grateful to those at CHANGE for the efforts to improve the entire community by assisting those in need and giving all members of the community a sense of belonging.”
"The work CHANGE has done for West Virginians in the Northern Panhandle over the past 30 years is truly commendable, and I applaud their work to make our communities stronger,” Senator Capito said. “This grant will enable CHANGE to continue serving families in need and empower West Virginians to live healthy and productive lives.”
CHANGE serves Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, and Marshall Counties in the Northern Panhandle as well as Jefferson County, Ohio. The organization offers services for the economically disadvantaged and those in financial need. Over the past 30 years, the organization has grown to be a comprehensive agency aimed to empower families by providing the necessary resources to find employment opportunities and achieve self-sufficiency.
The funding is awarded by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to provide financial assistance to community health centers that offer comprehensive primary and preventive health care services to underserved or rural areas.
