WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito announced $1,198,206 and $1,381,731, respectively, in federal funding to the Raleigh County Community Action Association Head Start program and the MountainHeart Community Services Head Start program. This funding will help Head Start provide early learning and development opportunities to children in Beckley and Oceana.
“Head Start programs help lay the foundation for our young West Virginians to be inspired by learning, which is so important for the future of our state,” Senator Capito said. “I can think of no better investment than the education and well-being of our youth.”
“Head Start’s mission starts with family, and in West Virginia, we understand the value of supporting our families and empowering our children to a lifetime of success,” Senator Manchin said. “I have always been a proud supporter of Head Start programs, and I will continue to be committed to making sure these valuable programs are available to those who need them. Our nearly 9,500 West Virginia children who participate in Head Start are truly blessed to be able to receive these educational opportunities that will help them succeed in life. I am pleased to know that Raleigh and Wyoming County children will continue to be among them.”
The funding is being awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources and is projected to benefit the Head Start programs until 2018.
