WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $422,173 from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to the West Virginia University Research Corporation for the Primary Care Training and Enhancement-Community Prevention and Maternal Health program. This program provides training to primary care physicians working in either maternal healthcare clinical services or population health to help improve maternal health outcomes, as well as increase the number of primary care physicians with expertise in maternal healthcare and obstetric care in rural communities across West Virginia.
“Providing quality and accessible health services to our mothers, infants, and children in West Virginia is crucial. Through this program, more primary care physicians will be able to receive training focused on maternal health care, increasing access to crucial services for families in our state. Innovative solutions like this will help keep our mothers and infants healthy, while growing the health care foundation of West Virginia,” Senator Capito said.
“It is critical that all mothers in West Virginia – regardless of where they live – have access to quality healthcare before, during and after the birth of their child. Unfortunately, West Virginia is ranked one of the worst states for maternal and infant health. This is simply unacceptable,” said Senator Manchin. “This investment in the Primary Care Training and Enhancement-Community Prevention and Maternal Health Program is great news for our state and I look forward to seeing our mothers and children in the Mountain State benefit from this program.”
