WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today hosted Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen for an introductory meeting. As the newly appointed chair of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Capito oversees funding for the department.

“It was wonderful to sit down with Secretary Nielsen today,” Senator Capito said. “We had an opportunity to get to know each other better and to discuss shared national security priorities—including securing our borders, building a wall system, fighting the opioid epidemic, natural disaster recovery, strengthening air and port security, cybersecurity, and the Coast Guard. I look forward to working together with Secretary Nielsen, President Trump, and others to advance these priorities, protect the men and women who serve our country, and ensure the safety of all Americans.”
