CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today delivered remarks at the first meeting of the WV Women of Asphalt. Women of Asphalt is a national organization devoted to connecting and supporting women working throughout the asphalt industry, with 17 chapters across the country.
“West Virginia women are strong, capable, and lift each other up. Each of those characteristics were on full display during the WV Women of Asphalt event today, and it was an honor to address them during their first-ever meeting,” Senator Capito said. “The quality of our roads and infrastructure in West Virginia will always be a priority through my work in Washington, and it was great to speak directly with so many women involved in our transportation industry. I look forward to seeing this organization grow in our state, and the impact they will make in our infrastructure sector.”
“The West Virginia branch of Women of Asphalt was thrilled to have Senator Capito as our Keynote speaker for our Kick Off event. Her message that women can excel in predominately male-dominated industries, and take on leadership roles left the entire audience feeling empowered. Her unique experiences and perspectives have inspired us all. She is a true role model for girls and women of all ages,” Therese Mizer, WV Women of Asphalt Chair, said.
