SUTTON, W.Va. — This morning, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, traveled to Sutton, W.Va., where she addressed the West Virginia Emergency Management Conference. During her remarks, Senator Capito highlighted her efforts with local governments to secure resources from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), specifically the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for communities across West Virginia.
“It was great to speak to the West Virginia Emergency Management Conference and thank our dedicated first responders and emergency professionals from our state. Their contributions to the Mountain State’s ability to respond to a crisis, especially the 2016 floods, have been invaluable for the safety of West Virginians every day,” Senator Capito said. “Through my role on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I have been able to direct resources that help meet community needs like the West Virginia Emergency Operations Center Facility and Mobile Command Unit, our firefighters, and our emergency medical services, and I look forward to continuing to partner with state leaders to help keep West Virginia safe and prepared.”
“On behalf of the members of the West Virginia Emergency Management Council, I would like to express our sincere appreciation for Senator Capito joining us today at our 2023 WVEMC Conference in Flatwoods, WV. We appreciate the support and everything that the senator has done for the emergency management community in WV and for her continued fight for us in Washington D.C.,” Richard Rose, West Virginia Emergency Management Council President, said.
