CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) this week hosted Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden in West Virginia for a number of activities focused on the importance of literacy, education, and history.
“It was such a pleasure to have Dr. Hayden with me in West Virginia this week,” Senator Capito said. “I was proud to introduce her to some of our state’s best and brightest and show her around some of our top-notch libraries and universities. Her love of reading and education and her ability to connect with others is truly inspiring, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to welcome her back to West Virginia.”
“It was such an honor to visit Marshall University and West Virginia State University these past couple days. I felt the spirit, strength, and energy of this state through its people,” Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said. “The commitment to education and lifelong learning is inspiring and something I will take back to Washington.”
During the week, Senator Capito and Dr. Hayden addressed students, faculty, and administrators at both Marshall University and West Virginia State University and spoke to the West Virginia Library Commission. Today, they read to a group of local preschoolers at the Kanawha County Public Library. Photos from the library visit are available below.
