BARBOURSVILLE/CROSS LANES, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today made several stops in Cabell and Kanawha counties where she met with community leaders and toured an equipment company. During the visits, Senator Capito discussed economic development, future infrastructure projects, and the impact the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) will have on businesses and communities in West Virginia.
First, Senator Capito met with Barboursville Mayor Chris Tatum to discuss the need to upgrade the village’s current wastewater collection system and future economic development initiatives in the region.
“I enjoyed the opportunity to sit down with Mayor Tatum and discuss a range of issues, including a critical water infrastructure project that is important to the growth of the community and help create economic development opportunities, attract new private investments, and improve the lives of its residents,” Senator Capito said. “I’m thankful for the leadership of Mayor Tatum, and for his invitation to meet with him today about his vision for the future of Barboursville.”
Senator Capito then traveled to Cross Lanes, W.Va. to visit Leslie Equipment Co. where she toured the facility and met with the leadership team to discuss a range of issues, including the benefits of the new bipartisan infrastructure law. Leslie Equipment is an award-winning John Deere dealer, and has experienced positive impact on business as a result of the IIJA, which Senator Capito helped author.
“Improving West Virginia’s infrastructure has always been a top priority, and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will help achieve this goal. I’m thrilled to see the impact this legislation is already having at Leslie Equipment, which has been an innovative leader in sales and product support for development opportunities across the Kanawha River Valley for over 45 years. I am thankful for the leadership of their president, John Leslie, and for his invitation to see their operations in Cross Lanes today,” Senator Capito said.
