WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today spoke in support of the Miners Protection Act during a United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) rally in Washington, D.C. Senator Capito addressed thousands of miners who traveled to Washington to urge support for legislation that would preserve their health and pension benefits that are set to expire at the end of the year.
“The bipartisan Miner’s Protection Act will prevent a lapse in benefits that tens of thousands of retirees depend on. I am putting all my energy and efforts behind this legislation and will continue working tirelessly until this bill crosses the finish line. Coal miners have powered our nation, and they are the pillars of our communities. We owe it to these men and women to keep the promise that was made to them,” said Senator Capito.
