MARTINSBURG, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today
made several stops in the Eastern Panhandle to receive updates on
infrastructure projects, meet with law enforcement and city leaders, and to view
progress on local services, including a drug screening and treatment center.
Senator Capito first met with
Martinsburg Mayor Kevin Knowles to discuss the latest on infrastructure,
combating the drug crisis, and economic development. They also toured the
city’s new police headquarters with Chief George Swartwood. Senator Capito then
received an update from the Berkeley County Public Service District to discuss upcoming
water system improvement projects. She then toured the Berkeley County Day
Report Center to see the new treatment center that serves those struggling with
addiction.
“Today was a great
opportunity to see firsthand how Martinsburg and Berkeley County are taking the
right steps to create safe communities, drive job creation, and make the area a
great place to live and raise a family,” Senator
Capito said. “I want to thank Mayor Knowles for his leadership, Chief
Swartwood for setting a fine example for everyone at the police department, Jim
Oullett, who is leading the way to improve the county’s water infrastructure,
and Tim Cjaza with the Day Report Center for his efforts to get West Virginians
struggling with addiction the help they need. All of their work is truly making
a difference in the community.”
