GLYNCO, Ga. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today visited the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) facility in Glynco, Georgia. During the visit, Senator Capito learned about the facility’s training delivery, infrastructure capacity, and evolving law enforcement practices.

“Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers provide critical training that prepares our law enforcement with the tools and skills needed to effectively do their jobs. I had the chance to witness this firsthand today,” Ranking Member Capito said. “I was incredibly impressed by the hard work and dedication of the students, as well as the staff members that make this facility function on a daily basis. 103 federal agencies and nearly 70,000 students per year train at FLETC, which includes several West Virginians I had the opportunity to meet and thank for their service to our country. The work happening at FLETC is so important to our national security and directly contributes to efforts to keep our country safe, and I look forward to continuing to support their goals and mission.”

BACKGROUND:

FLETC, through strategic partnerships, prepares the federal law enforcement community to safeguard the American people, our homeland, and our values. FLETC also serves as an interagency law enforcement training organization for 103 federal agencies or participating organizations. In addition, FLETC provides training and training resources to state, local, tribal, territorial, campus, and international law enforcement.

The FLETC facility in Glynco, which Senator Capito visited today, is the headquarters facility for the FLETC. It is situated on 1,600 acres in southeast Georgia with modern conventional facilities such as classrooms, dormitories, and administrative and logistical support structures. Additionally, Glynco has 18 firearms ranges, driver training ranges, a physical techniques facility, explosives range, fully functional mockport of entry, and numerous other structures which support the entire training effort. Among these training assets is a 34-building "neighborhood" practical exercise area.

As the top Republican on the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, Ranking Member Capito has helped draft several Homeland Security Appropriations measures over the past few years that include funding to support FLETC.
