CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito
(R-W.Va.) made several stops in Charleston, W.Va. where she received tours and
met with leadership from the West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) and Kanawha
County Public Library.
First,
Senator Capito traveled to the McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, where she received
a tour of the West Virginia Air National Guard’s new C-130J Aircraft, as well
as an update on operations from WVNG leadership.
“On missions both domestic
and abroad, we rely greatly on our brave national guard members here in West
Virginia. I enjoyed the chance to visit McLaughlin Air National Guard Base
again and see their new C-130J Aircraft up close. I have been a steadfast supporter
of the Guard during their C-130J Recapitalization and Basing Program, and will
continue to advocate for the resources they need to continuing flying missions,”
Senator Capito said.
“I’m
incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to demonstrate the Mountaineer
pride of the West Virginia Air National Guard to Senator Capito and her staff
today,” Maj. Gen. Bill Crane, Adjutant
General of the West Virginia National Guard, said. “Senator Capito is a
tremendous supporter of the National Guard through her work in Congress, which
has directly helped to ensure the longevity of the 130th Airlift Wing with the
C-130J basing in Charleston. I’m grateful for her commitment to the men and
women of the WVNG.”
Next,
Senator Capito traveled to the Kanawha County Public Library, where she toured
recently completed renovations to the facility and met with library staff.
“The Kanawha County Public
Library is a great resource to West Virginians of all ages, and helps put
powerful information and tools right in the hands of our residents. They also
provide events and shows that are important to building community and culture
in Charleston,” Senator Capito said.
“These renovations will help continue the library’s tradition of excellence,
ensuring they will continue serving the people of West Virginia well into the
future. It was great to tour the facility today and meet with their dedicated
staff.”
“I was delighted to provide
Senator Capito today with a tour through our wonderful newly renovated Kanawha
County Public Library. Senator Capito was instrumental in providing the
initial donation for the fundraising campaign. We also appreciate her support
and donation of children’s books as part of the Library of Congress Surplus
Book Program,” Erika Connelly, Director
of Kanawha County Public Library, said.
