SISSONVILLE, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), today brought her West Virginia Girls Rise Up program to Sissonville Middle School to promote female empowerment, education, fitness, and self-confidence. Joining Senator Capito in hosting the Girls Rise Up event were West Virginia Supreme Court Chief Justice Beth Walker and Justice Haley Bunn. Fifth grade female students participated in the program, where they had the chance to hear from the women on their personal experience as a female leader. Today’s event marks the 29th event since the program’s launch in 2015.
“Inspiring the next generation of West Virginia’s female leaders has always been a top priority for me, and I’m glad I could do that today alongside Chief Justice Walker and Justice Bunn,” Senator Capito said. “I was so excited to bring Girls Rise Up to Sissonville Middle School today where I met some amazing young women who have some very bright futures ahead of them. It’s my hope that Girls Rise Up will inspire them to pursue their goals and achieve them, and I can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things they accomplish in the years to come.”
“I love talking to the next generation of women leaders in West Virginia and I’m so grateful that Justice Bunn and I could co-host the Girls Rise Up program today. I have always been inspired by Senator Capito’s tireless commitment to showing young women how they can make a difference. I hope we met a future Supreme Court Justice today,” Chief Justice Walker said.
“As a lifelong West Virginian, the youngest female justice to serve on West Virginia’s highest court, and a mom raising two girls of my own in our Great State, it is an honor to use my position as a platform to inspire and encourage these amazing young ladies. I hope our visit today has showed them that they have what it takes to become leaders and to have a positive impact on their communities,” Justice Bunn said.
Senator Capito launched the West Virginia Girls Rise Up program in 2015 to instill confidence in young West Virginia women and empower them to be strong and kind female leaders. The program focuses on three areas: education, fitness, and self-confidence.
