WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate today passed bipartisan legislation cosponsored by U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and a majority of her Senate colleagues to award Officer Eugene Goodman the Congressional Gold Medal to honor his heroic actions on January 6, 2021. Goodman confronted rioters in the Capitol, delaying their access to the Senate chamber and protecting the lives of those inside.
“If there was ever a person deserving of the Congressional Gold Medal, it is Officer Eugene Goodman,” Senator Capito said. “On January 6, he stood in harm’s way and took brave action that truly saved lives. We are eternally indebted to Officer Goodman and I am proud to join my colleagues in ensuring he is awarded one of the highest civilian awards in the United States as just one way to honor his heroism on that day.”
