WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued a video statement commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy by Allied forces on June 6, 1944.
Full video transcript included below:
“80 years ago today, on D-Day, soldiers from across the free world invaded Nazi-occupied France in what General Eisenhower called ‘a great crusade.’
“The courage of the Allied forces storming the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany amounted to one of the greatest displays of bravery in the history of the world.
“It remains the largest amphibious assault in military history and a showcase of America’s military strength and resolve.
“The D-Day invasion was, and still is, a testament to America’s commitment to freedom, not just at home, but also abroad.
“I encourage West Virginians to remember the valor of all of those who participated in this noble undertaking, and to honor those who died fighting to rid the world of hateful tyranny so that we could live free.”
