WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today delivered the fourth in a series of Senate floor speeches on the benefits of comprehensive pro-growth tax reform—highlighting how reform will help middle-class, West Virginia families keep more of their hard-earned money and create new economic opportunities across the country.

“Expenses are going up, yet most Americans haven't received a raise in years. So we need to help working families—especially those living paycheck-to-paycheck—and this is one of the primary goals of our tax reform,” Senator Capito said. “I look forward to looking into the eyes of the working men and women in my state and saying not only is help on the way but help is here.”

As Senator Capito outlined, the framework for tax reform helps middle-class families in several ways, including:

  • Calling for a significant increase in the child tax credit.
  • Doubling the standard deduction or zero tax bracket to $24,000 for married taxpayers and $12,000 for single taxpayers.
  • Driving economic growth to create jobs and raise wages.
