CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) yesterday joined Governor Jim Justice, Congressman Alex Mooney (R-W.Va.), West Virginia health leaders, and other officials for the governor’s latest daily press briefing regarding West Virginia’s COVID-19 response. Prior to the briefing, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Debora Birx participated in a roundtable discussion with Senator Capito and others on the state’s response efforts.
“One of the things that I think is most important in getting our schools reopened is the funding that will come from the next CARES package of $105 billion to help our schools reopen. Whether it’s sanitation, whether it’s shields, whether it’s extra staff, whether it’s more nurses—whatever our counties need—we need to fund that from the federal level because I know it’s going to be a big burden to a lot of our school systems and to you, as the governor. I’m disappointed we haven’t reached a resolution here. I’m fighting hard to get that compromise, and hopefully it includes a lot of other things: small business help, help for our hospitals, also the continued research for our vaccine and treatment, which is essential to kind of getting over the hump here,” Senator Capito said in her opening remarks.
