CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued a video statement ahead of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27.

Full video transcript included below:

“Memorial Day is more than a kickoff to summer or a day off from work.

“It is a solemn time to reflect upon the ultimate sacrifice men and women in uniform have made for our freedoms.

“For generations, many West Virginians have answered the call of duty to our country.

“West Virginia has a proud history of military service, but there are many West Virginians, and Americans, who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“We live in, undoubtedly, the greatest nation in the world, and our freedoms are essential to our identity.

“Every day, and especially on this Memorial Day, I encourage my fellow West Virginians to take a moment to remember the fallen soldiers and their full measure of devotion, and remember that freedoms do not come free.

“And we are forever grateful for their service, and we will never forget their sacrifice.”
