WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today joined Varney and Co. on Fox Business Network to discuss the lack of action from the Biden administration in addressing the ongoing southern border crisis.

HIGHLIGHTS:

ON BIDEN ADMINISTRATION COVERING UP BORDER CRISIS: “Well, we are looking at oversight. It's very difficult to get this administration to bring forth timely data. I'll use December for example. Normally we would find out how many apprehensions were at the border by the first week of January…it comes in at the end of January, the beginning of February. They don't want these figures out as 170,000, which is an enormous amount in December. So, the numbers are still going up. And we are releasing folks into this country with something called…a diversion of detention. So they're wearing a bracelet or they've got something on their phones. There's no accountability here. So yes, we are trying to rein it in. But the administration has not been forthcoming with the data.”

COST OF ADMINISTRATION’S LACK OF ACTION: “Well, when you have 2 million people, you know, it adds up quickly. And a lot of communities don't know that people are being left off into their communities. They are able to use their arrest warrants for their ID to fly, which to me is just smacks of hypocrisy as well. And, I think that as much as we asked the administration to cease this and to give us the accountability, they have no policy. That's my big issue. They have no policy.”

WISHING SENATOR LUJÁN A SPEEDY RCOVERY: “Certainly I want to offer to his family and to him…he is absolutely one of the nicest people serving… we still have really nice people here in the Senate. And, Ben Ray is one of those. So, my heart goes out to him and a speedy recovery. You know, I'm sure Senator Schumer has put this into his calculation. We're doing a lot of nominations. A lot of this is bipartisan. We'll see what goes from here.”
